It’s hard to believe we’ve finally come to the end! We greet you this month with our final installment, covering volumes seventeen through nineteen of this epic series, as well as two side stories (“Angel Eyes” and “Garden of Light”) which are included in the final volume of the English-language edition of the manga. The character of Gregor sort of parallels Franz himself, as Gregor and Franz both held jobs where they were traveling salesman, are anxious (about being repulsive and troublesome), both were grown men living with their families, etc.Welcome again, and for the very last time, to our roundtable, Breaking Down Banana Fish! It's sort of a quick, condensed "coming of age" story. The way she is startled by Gregor, then wishes to take care of him, then grows a bit flustered by him and finding him 'burdensome', and ultimately makes the executive decision that the Samsa family must get rid of him. Certainly a metamorphosis occurs within Gregor and it's what draws us into the story, but the way that we see Grete evolve in the duration of the novella is what's fascinating to myself, and a lot of readers. It's my personal favorite.Īnyway, what I notice a lot of people discussing with it is how it's a metamorphosis of Grete (the sister of Gregor), and not really one of Gregor. If you want another great novella of his, please check out "In The Penal Colony". Example: Hello.Įxplanation of our link flairs Join our /r/bookclub Don't forget /new!
